Speaker Presentations

Questions and Responses from Speakers

In the last few years, the Midwest saw major floods along the Missouri and Mississippi river with significant impacts on many Missouri communities. Climate change in Missouri is expected to increase precipitation and heavy precipitation events, which can increase the chance for floods depending on how our communities prepare. For this briefing, we will hear Missouri researcher perspectives on how we can forecast river conditions and insure against flooding damage.

Amanda Cox Ph.D., P.E., Director of the Water Access, Technology, Environment and Resources (WATER) Institute at Saint Louis University will speak on her research with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in her talk titled “Hybrid Modeling to Forecast Long-Term Morphological Changes in Rivers.”

J. David Rogers, Ph.D., P.E., P.G., Professor and Karl F. Hasselmann Chair in Geological Engineering at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, who previously served on the National Academies panel on Levees  and  the  National Flood Insurance  Program will speak on ““Emerging priorities in the wake of increasing flood damage.”

The event is finished.
