Chinenye Izuegbunam holds a BS in Microbiology from Imo State University, Nigeria, earned in 2012, and an MS in Industrial and Commercial Biotechnology from Newcastle University, United Kingdom, completed in 2016. She graduated with a PhD in Biology and a Graduate Certificate in Technology Development and Entrepreneurship from the University of South Dakota (USD) in 2023. Her dissertation focused on developing novel strategies to enhance environmental stress tolerance in plants. At the University of South Dakota, she was a Technology Readiness Acceleration Center fellow, where she regularly presented her research to stakeholders in South Dakota. She also led student teams that explored the impact of her research findings in agricultural practices by engaging directly with local farmers to understand their challenges.
Her professional experience includes working as a Plant Biologist at Bayer Crop Science and as a team leader at a molecular diagnostic laboratory before beginning her doctoral studies. Chinenye is also dedicated to mentorship and volunteerism, actively participating in organizations like Planting Science USA, where she mentors the next generation of scientists.
As a MOST fellow, Chinenye is committed to bridging the gap between science and policy and recognizes the importance of evidence-based decision-making. Chinenye is eager to contribute meaningfully to the legislative process and serve the people of Missouri.
